On November 4, 2008, marriage controllers persuaded a majority of California voters to overturn their State's Supreme Court decision that had legalized same sex marriage, to instead create a constitutional amendment that codified marriage as "one man, one woman." In May and June, 2009, however, marriage controllers learned the fallacy of using "democracy" to re-define marriage. The Legislatures in Maine and New Hampshire both "democratically" re-defined marriage to legalize same sex marriage. As marriage controllers lose such majoritarian "democratic" battles to supporters of same sex marriage, they will eventually learn that the polygamy rights WIN-WIN solution is their only real alternative.
As well, the United States citizenry elected its first African American President, Barack Obama. That gave hope to polygamous Americans that maybe even a consenting adult polygamist might also become president one day.
So, ultimately, polygamy supporters had much to celebrate on August 19, 2009, "Polygamy Day ® 9."
